The group was formed by Kathleen (Richman)
Hiserodt in 1994 to give home educated students with an interest in acting and
theatre a chance to polish their skills and showcase their talents. The current
producer/director, Jean Forbes, joined Kathleen in that first show as producer.
Realizing they made a good team, the two formed a partnership and The YPT
Company in 1995.
YPT produces two major shows per year, both musical and non-musical
productions. Previous shows include A Little Princess, Anne of Green Gables,
Cheaper by the Dozen, Little Women, Fiddler on the Roof, and Annie.
YPT has operated summer camps and adds an occasional small show, such as
Peter and the Wolf and Carnival of Animals, performed with the Mt. Vernon
Orchestra. They have performed in Locust Shade Park for the Prince William
Summer Arts Festival and participated in the regional NVTA one-act play
competition. The actors of YPT have also been spotlighted in major media
outlets such as Newsweek, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and
USA Today.
Director Jean Forbes' extensive experience in all aspects of theatre
includes a one-year stint in the cast of the television show M*A*S*H.
The very substantial participation level of all YPT parents is also a
significant part of what makes YPT work.
Children who perform with YPT learn that a lot of hard work creates a
quality production; one in which they can take pride. As they work together to
delight audiences, they become an effective team and build meaningful
relationships.
